NICET Video Security Systems Certifications

Postby Jason Caissie on Wed Nov 05, 2008 2:37 pm

Last night, I mentioned that NICET (National Institute for Certification in Engineering Technologies) offered two streams of certification in Video Systems Security (VSS).

There is a designer certification with two levels of expertise and a technician certification with four levels of expertise. The difference in the levels relates to the complexity of the video system involved.

Follow this link for details:

If anyone gets in touch with NICET or applies for either program, please let us all know via the forum what details you've found out. I'd be interested to know how many certificants exist, specifically in Canada or the GTA.

Hey guys

I looked into this certification a while ago and again last night.
The only problem that I have found with this certification is that the testing locations in Canada are thus far only found in Nova Scotia and New Brunswick.

You can buy a complete package of all the course material or you can buy each session seperately.

When looking at the course material I was blinded by how many books they suggest you read.

There are other courses available from a Canadian website called "LeapFrog Training". From my research those courses offered are more visual and give examples. The Leapfrog course can help you attain the Nicet certification.

Take a look at these links to help you decide

http://www.securityceu.com/ (this site offers many courses. I am currently taking the PSNA course. It is a nicely done course and is very good at explaining how IT can be integrated with Security. This course also helps you to attain the CISSP....either that or beg Jason for info!

http://www.ltctrainingcntr.com/ this is hosted by none other than Charlie Pierce. This course is about CCTV systems and can help you attain the Nicet designation.

Canasa site has the same link to SecurityCEU.

If anyone would like more info about CCTV systems or the transistion from Analog to IP based systems let me know. I have been researching the transition from Analog to IP for the past 2 months and have been to seminars and had meetings with companies like: Anixter, Axis Communications, SourceAV, Amarican Dynamics and Genetec.

FYI
Anixter offers it's clients an opertunity to fly to Chigago to their CCTV lab to test any product you would like no matter who the manufacturer is. They will set up the exact same Video system as you currently run to establish the best transition to IP. They offer many different Baluns and Video encoders that are manufactured by different companies. They will foot the bill.

Anixter is a distributor...they promote certain products but are not married to any one kind of product. They work very closely with you and also offer their clients training. I am scheduled for a one on one session with a representative who will explain and disect the OSI layer.

****Disclaimer*****
I am not promoting any one kind of product nor any one kind of manufacturer. I am simply letting you guys know who I have found to be very helpful. If you would like contacts for these companies please let me know...I am not on commision nor receive benefits from any company and can therefore refer you.

Cheers
Chris
